SIFF: The Fall
Now here's a movie I can talk about.
Made by Tarsem, previously known for The Cell, a beautiful film which might have been better without J-Lo, this film has been on my radar for a while thanks to the folks at http://www.io9.com and http://www.quietearth.us (two blogs I highly recommend).
The story is as simple as it is complex. The simple version is a hospitalized actor tells an impressionable young girl a story. The more complex version involves drugs, the line between reality and fiction and suicide.
It was strongly reminiscent of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, but not quite as kid friendly, as it has quite a few more adult elements.
Now, what this movie had in spades, and what you know if you saw The Cell, is incredible cinematography. The colors are lush, the scenery gorgeous. There were a couple frames that were a little off-center, but I'm willing to chalk that up to either the print or the projectionist. If it was actually final product and by design, well, not sure I liked it.
I gave it a 5, but, I'd rather have given it a 4.5. I didn't feel right giving it a 4. I recommend seeing it when it comes out.
