The Season So Far...
So, four shows down. Two season premiers, two series premiers. So, maybe I'll share my thoughts so far....
The Simpsons - Another year, another round of complaints about how the show just has gotten stale, followed by a round of rebuttals saying that it is as fresh as it has ever been. Me? I still like it, I still laugh at it. I'm sad I missed the movie this past summer, especially since the entire opening credit sequence was the result of the movie.
Family Guy - The long awaited Star Wars spoof. I laughed, I cried and, mostly, I wondered why exactly the movie was so long compared to the 40 minute run-time of the show. I mean, they touched on pretty much every major plot point of the movie and managed to fit it into the 1 hour TV format.
Now, the new shows...
Chuck - The synopsis... a computer geek working for the fake version of the Geek Squad manages to download a series of pictures into his head that somehow predict the future (I was a little fuzzy on that part) of terrorism and the NSA and CIA both want him. Of course, the CIA agent is a hottie, so, heck, I'll try the show. If it picks up a little, I see the show lasting a couple seasons. If it doesn't, I give it 8 episodes before it is pulled from the schedule, just to come back as a midseason 'Here, we'll give you the last view episodes' a-la Kidnapped or Traveller.
Journeyman - Peeve #1: That they pronounce it Journey Man, like a superhero, instead of journeyman like a... well...whatever that thing is between Apprentice and ... Master? Peeve #2: Well, ok, I'm not sure this is a peeve or not. See, when I saw the War of the Worlds remake, I was irked that all the people in the movie had apparently NEVER seen a Sci-Fi movie in their life. Just like people in monster movies never seem to recognize the things they should recognize. The main guy, the one traveling through time (oh, a synopsis might be in order: A man starts slipping through time and apparently has to right wrongs, sorta like Quantum Leap, except he keeps going home between events much to the consternation of his wife who is wondering where the hell he's going), he just.. accepted what was happening way too easily. So it's almost the opposite of War of the Worlds. It's like he was a fanatical follower of Quantum Leap and was wishing on the first evening star that his life could be like Sam's and suddenly, it is like Sam's so he knows just what to do. The fact that they already fixed some of the issues (so as not to spoil it), makes me wonder how long it'll last. The plus side is that it's after Heroes. The downside is that, over all, it wasn't that dramatic. There wasn't a real...pull. It wasn't horrible. It just didn't make me care that much.

I only watched like the first 10 minutes of Journeyman since it was right after Heroes and that was all that MCE recorded. Would totally agree about the Quantum Leap connection, it's really bad. The dialog seemed forced and the general feel of the show was like, meh, been there done that, bring back ziggy any day.
